Process Control Specialist

Our client located in Nanticoke is looking for a Process Controls Engineering Specialist to join their team on either a contract or full time basis:

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, troubleshoot and otherwise maintain critical process control system servers, HMIs, relational databases, and web servers
  • Learn and understand the steel hot rolling process and apply appropriate software control technologies to maximize operating efficiencies
  • Analyze manufacturing process improvement requests and design software solutions based on those requirements
  • Work with personnel from various disciplines in a manufacturing environment toward continual improvement in production capabilities
  • Design, develop, test, verify and document applications for the production environment
  • Support the critical production systems in a timely fashion to maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption
  • Use a mix of computer software technologies including C, FORTRAN, Java, VB, SQL, C#, ASP, Javascript and PHP.
  • Coordinate both the design and development of process improvements utilizing project management skills
  • Off-hours, on-call response to high priority issues is required

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Community College diploma in Computer, Electrical or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Engineering Technology  
  • Minimum 5 – 7 years programming experience, preferably including C, C#, C++, Java or Fortran
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming and the ability to learn new programming languages
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including experience with one of the following: MS Access, Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL
  • Detailed knowledge of communication network protocols including TCP/IP and UDP
  • Experience in the configuration of the MS Windows family of operating systems
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry, particularly steel or heavy industry, is an important asset
  • Experience with OpenVMS, Linux, QNX operating systems is preferred

Job Skills and Knowledge

  • Background in Process Control theory including sampling, filtering, signal processing, and modeling
  • Database administration experience is an asset
  • Strong verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrated analytical/mathematical abilities
